On September 20th, the Wall Street Journal announced Amazon’s revised workplace mandate.

The markets have yet to report on the effect of the in-person workplace policy on attrition, but there is concern over the risk of resignations and dis-engagement, according to SHRM resources.

For Managers looking for ways to create a soft-landing, Temporary Furnished Housing offers several advantages, especially in the context of the growing return-to-work demand. Here are just a half of a dozen reasons why offering this resource can make a difference!

1. Convenience for Employees: Furnished housing eliminates the need to purchase or transport furniture, making it easier for employees who are relocating temporarily or for new hires to transition quickly.

2. Flexibility: Short-term lease options allow companies and employees to adjust to the changing demands of remote, hybrid, or in-office work schedules without long-term commitments.

3. Cost-Efficiency: Furnished housing can be more cost-effective for companies and employees compared to long-term leases or hotels, especially for stays of a few weeks to months.

4. Productivity Boost: Employees can focus on work rather than logistics, as temporary furnished housing is typically equipped with essential amenities, including Wi-Fi, which supports remote work.

5. Improved Employee Satisfaction: Offering comfortable, ready-to-move-in housing as part of a relocation or return-to-office package can improve morale and increase employee satisfaction. Reducing the stress for employees, their spouses, partners and families is key to talent retention and the positive work culture that so many leading companies strive to sustain.

Sustainability – Top of mind with the Temporary Housing Industry

Through the Q2/Q3 season of industry and association events, stakeholders have continued to focus on the ways global mobility can enlist zero-carbon strategies that will meet or exceed Environmental, Sustainability and Governance (ESG) guidance. At Greater Washington Employee Relocation Council ( GWERC ) and Virginia Area Relocation Council(VARC) events, panelists comprised of global mobility professionals and service partners took time to address the global focus on environmental impacts of travel solutions. It was noted that many clients have formalized this focus by incorporating sustainability elements into RFP requirements to qualify and elevate vendors with whom they may prefer to place business.

While desirable, consensus was that consistently reportable attainment of sustainability objectives continues to be elusive due to an overall lack of standardized measurements globally and the evolving and protracted implementation schedules of innovative sustainability solutions. So- while “nice to have” this aspect of performance may not tip the scales in favor in any direction, simply due to lack of clarity and comparison across the service provider pool.

Trends that are more evident include the renovation and repurposing of industrial space into multi-family properties that incorporate recycled construction materials, the increase of electric vehicle charging stations and rooftops optimized for green space and a solar or wind energy solutions. Additionally, as localities invest in multi-modal transportation networks, properties are incorporating visual “transportation guides” with real-time service updates and are making room for bicycle and other extreme sport equipment storage (scooters, Segways, for example) that allow residents to realize their own preference for carbon footprint reduction.

Stayed at Aura Pentagon City, which is centrally located and within walking distance to Pentagon City Mall, the metro station, and the Pentagon itself. Whole Foods, Costco, Starbucks and great restaurants ranging from Latin food to South Asian cuisine, all within minutes. This property is dog-friendly so if you don't like pets, do not consider this! Elevators and hallway carpets have pet fur all over the place which sometimes seeps into the apartment with your feet. Great for long distance walking. The apartment is modern with appliances, comfortable couches and bed, and carpeted bedroom. The single apartment is quite spacious but balcony is tiny. Interim Housing staff is professional and very quick to respond to inquiries and concerns. Appreciated their assistance and kindness during my two-month stay!

Interim Homes stay at Avalon 555 property was perfect for me and my Family. The 3 bedroom, 2 bath unit was spacious, well furnished with all amenities... the floor to ceiling window views of bustling Baltimore Harbor East area were amazing. Roof top infinity pool and 24 hour concierge... over the top. Interim staff Christiana, Chris, Athena in Accounting and especially Julia in Guest Services made our approval, check-in and extension seamless. This was truly an interim home as my Mother and I awaiting closing of our new home in the Baltimore area, while my Aunt received treatments and care at Johns Hopkins. This really avoided my Aunt and Uncle traveling back and forth from Wilmington DE over a three week period and staying in hotels during this trying time. Kudos to you Interim Homes!!!!
